Pinky is a dedicated and compassionate professional in the field of psychology and counselling, holding a Bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College of Higher Studies. Her journey in this field showcases a deep commitment to both personal growth and the betterment of those she serves. With a robust foundation in psychology and counselling, Pinky has channelled her expertise into areas where her skills have the most profound impact.

Currently, Pinky works as a Special Needs Therapist at Ceylon Steps, a role that allows her to directly apply her knowledge and continuously learn. Her position enables her to support children who require tailored approaches and specialized care, making a meaningful difference in their lives. Through this work, she gains hands-on experience, refining her skills in real-time, and deepening her understanding of the complexities and nuances of special needs therapy. Her work environment challenges her to stay adaptable and empathetic, further enriching her understanding of human behaviour and mental health.

 

In addition to her current role, Pinky has also volunteered at the National Council for Mental Health, Sahanaya (NCMH), and an experience that significantly shaped her perspective on mental health care. During her time at NCMH, she encountered a diverse range of individuals facing conditions such as schizophrenia, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This exposure provided her with invaluable insights into the daily realities and struggles faced by those with severe mental health challenges. She learned how to manage and interact with individuals in distress, and developed techniques for offering compassionate, effective support. Her time at NCMH solidified her understanding of mental health beyond theory, grounding her knowledge in real-life experience.

Pinky’s journey in psychology and counselling reflects an inspiring commitment to learning and serving. Her experience illustrates not only her technical abilities but also her genuine desire to help others navigate their mental health challenges. In the future, she aims to continue expanding her knowledge and experience, further strengthening her ability to contribute positively to the field of mental health care.
